Altitude sickness

Altitude sickness is one of the major difficulties of trekking in Nepal. The trekking above 3500m is relatively risky than low altitude trek. The level of oxygen decrease in higher elevation and trekkers suffer from headache, dizzyness and uncomfort due to altitude sickness. The common symptoms of altitude sickness are:

  • Headache
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Dizziness
  • Weaknesses
  • loss of appetite
  • lack of sound sleep
  • Difficulty in breathing

As soon as we face any symptoms of altitude sickness, it is essential to descend to lower altitude. If the symptoms are minor then taking garlic soup, hot water, taking rest are the common cure we can give the victim but if the trekker is suffering more then he/she should descend to lower altitude or evacuate as soon as possible. Carelessness during altitude sickness may take our life also.

Preventive measures of altitude sickness

  • Proper use ofDimox tablet
  • Acclimatization
  • Drinking plenty of water
  • Avoiding hard drinks
  • Take garlic soup
  • Healthy habits

Long trekking route

High elevation trekking covers long distance from starting to ending point due to which we should walk long distance. It is one of the difficulty that makes us tired and cramps appear in our legs. Trekkers should be well prepared to trek long distance.

Off roads

We should drive to reach the starting point of the trek. Most of the roads leading to starting point of the trek are off roads. The bumpy and dusty roads are  challening before reaching the trekking point and after completing the trek.

Limited medical service centres

Most of the high elevation trekking spots are remote region where health service are limited. If we face any emergencies it will be difficult to reach the hospitals so we need to carry first aid with us and minor medicines to cure general fever and pains.

Weather

The clear weather is best to view mountains but if the weather becomesbad then trekking will be worthless. Therefore, it is always best to choose right season for trekking to enjoy the mountain view.

Network and wifi

Network and wifi are available in particular places only. Most of the remote trekking lacks wifi and network that creates difficulties in conversation with your relatives.

Conclusion

The difficulty in trekking route can be minimized by following precautions. Altitude sickness is the major difficulty in high altitude which may take life if trekkers does not take it seriously.
